Practicing more landscape, inspired by Xiangyuan Jie's artwork. This time, Zecora wandering in the mysterious forest.

Even though the lore of Everfree Forest is a dangerous forest, but I believe there must be a beauty in such a place. After all, Zecora does live in that forest. For example, Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Nausicaa ventures into the molded forest. The molded forest is the most toxic area yet it gleams with beauty.

This one took more than 8~10 hours to finish

EDIT
I cannot believe I didn't saw the mistake. Fixed the cutie mark of Zecora. Before that, it was a botch of stroke ^_^;

Let me start by saying that this is a beautiful piece of art. I plan to talk about its flaws more than its beauty because the purpose of a critique is to improve you, but don't get me wrong, it really it great art.

Colour Choice:
I think it was a good decision to use cool colours in this piece. The greens and the blues give the piece a quite natural, feeling. However, I would recommend putting more warm colours in the piece in order to contrast the cool. Adding warm colours like little red flowers would make all the different colours more noticeable, rather than having mostly cool colours. You have a little of that going on in the foreground tree on the left, with the little pink plants. I think it would be good to have more of that in other parts of the picture. One last thing, there is a little bit of black on the right hand side of the background tree on the right, near the base of the tree. I don't know if it was intentional, but it looks slightly out of place, that darkness.

Light Streaks:
I like the idea of light breaking through the canopy, and Zecora looking to admire the beauty of the forest. I think however that the light streaks are too horizontal. Light in a forest doesn't spread well; it tends to come straight down. I see that fallen tree is what provided the hole for light to come through, but the light appears to be coming from a source farther away than where the tree stood. It's hard to say exactly what you should do to correct that depth perception issue, but I hope that by pointing it out you can understand me.

Textures:
I can see that a lot of the colours in this photo are blurred to give it a soft look. There are few hard edges. Even still, texture is possible. The background tree on the right has an obvious texture going up its bole, and it is nicely done. Also, the moss on the fall trunk in the foreground has a nice texture. However, the foreground tree and the moss in the light are quite blurry. I understand that the lighting has a bit to do with that, but I don't think that all texture should be lost due to lighting.

Zecora:
Zecora is very nicely drawn, and provides shape contrast to her surroundings by having sharp lines that define her. The only complaint I have about her is that I find it hard to tell exactly where she's looking. For some reason I get the impression that her hair indicates that she is looking further right then what her ear indicates. Maybe I'm just crazy.

This is a great piece of art, really. I hope you continue to make art for the rest of us to enjoy. Have a great day.

This is absolutely amazing. I love the detail and the choice of colors for the background.
There are a few things that annoy me though, as a perfectionist.

Judging by the light beams going behind the standing tree, one would assume that the light came from about the direction Zecora was looking.
But if you look closely at the same trunk, it's not back-lit, and appears to be out of place as it has no "aura of light" around the edges.
The same goes for Zecora's body, except the light seems to come from behind there, as too much of her side is lit up.

Then I would like to know where the rest of the two birches beneath the fallen trunk went.
Are they broken in half right where the trunk is placed, or is it just a lazy/mistake thing?

Then there's the cutiemark, which appear to be an upside down @-symbol.
Last time I checked, Zecora had a cutiemark that looked like an abstract sun marking.
Not to mention that the blackness of the mark gives it an unnatural feeling, as if it was painted on.

You lose a few points in originality for drawing Zecora in Everfree, it could've been a bit more interesting than that. But as a practicing piece, I'd say it was appropriate.

Again, I love it thoroughly, and wish I could draw backgrounds that were anything near as good as this.

I like the contrast between the shadowy, darky-ness of the background forest - all thin, grey trees that would otherwise create a slightly spooky feel with a cool background like that - and the cool sort of warmth created with the grass. The light streaming through the forest creates an effect I can only compare to the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time, as it seems to fit the music perfectly.
Well done.
